Thank
you for your interest in hunting with Color Country Outfitters, hunting
southern Utah and Nevada.. The majority of our hunts are on the Alton
CWMU, a sub-unit in the Paunsaugunt consisting of entirely private land.
The unit is located 35 miles North of Kanab, in south central Utah.
There are several ranches
in the unit totaling 40,000 acres including the Heaton ranch.
We
offer 15 hunts each year on the CWMU so availability is limited. Archery
hunts are at the end of August and the riffle hunts are in September
with approximately 3 hunters each week. Hunts are 5 days, Tuesday through
Saturday; with the option to return in October if hunter does not find
the deer they are looking for during the 5 days.
We
will be staying at our lodge located in Alton. The lodge has individual
bedroom/bathroom, TV/SAT, telephone, fax/internet, full-time cook, etc.
Each hunter will have 1 guide,
but several other guides will be assisting
those guides. We try to be flexible in hunting styles to accommodate
everyone's preferences, while much of the hunting is done using vehicle
and spot/stalk with some treestand/blind. The terrain is very accessible;
it ranges from 6500 - 8500' in elevation. There is no horse backriding
or backpacking.
The
cost of this hunt is $10,000 for archery - $12,000 for rifle flat rate
with no kill fee.We
will purchase the license from the state of Utah which is an additional
$513. This license is valid for the return trip in October if needed.

We
have produced three hunting videos, "Utah Velvet" and "Muley
Magic 1&2", which were filmed primarily on our ranches. These
videos can give you a better idea of the type of deer and terrain to

also guide Paunsaugunt hunters who have drawn tags or wish to purchase
landowner tags. We have additional private property that we can hunt
exclusively on the rifle and muzzleloader hunts, which are in October/November.
